I wanted to share the essay "Steps Forward, and Backward, in Treating Diabetes" from the NY Times Health section this week:

Dan Hurley outlines the main successes and failures of the last 35 years on a search for a cure for Diabetes. Many of the controversies that were around 35 years ago still persist today. He mentions various discoveries and advancements (like home blood sugar tests), but he also references statistics about the increasing incidence of diabetes in the U.S. He ends on a good note about prevention.
So I ask you all, what can really be done to prevent diabetes? What are your thoughts on removing cow’s-milk formula from infants’ diet (for Type 1 Diabetes)? Do you think the public health campaigns that attempt to curb Type 2 Diabetes will be effective?
