Bioethics in medicine represents a wide ranging applied philosophic discipline extending from issues in medical education to medical practice along with the associated clinical ethical dilemmas to medical research with the use of human subjects. Much consensus has developed over the past 40 years regarding the ethical solutions to associated ethical questions. But still there are many more questions which are unanswered.
This Group could be a good place for those Medpedia members who have ethical questions or actual ethical dilemmas to obtain the views of others who might provide some answers or possible solutions.
It is very important that for any clinical history be written here that there should be nothing posted that might identify a specific person. So no names or specific dates or specific places should be included in the history. Obviously, ethical issues involving cases which have been or currently in the public domain can be discussed as fully as needed including information already available to the public. Also remember that the responses to any questions here will be simply opinions and not prescriptions for action. Specific medical and legal questions should be handled by the appropriately consulted professional.
It is my view that everyone is a potential ethicist and their ethical slant on issues are worthy of discussion. That is why I created my "Bioethics Discussion Blog" in July 2004 for all visitors to have the opportunity to read and comment on bioethical issues (currently over 700 topics). The URL for those who would be interested to also go there is:

I hope this Group on Medpedia will fill a need for open discussion of the ethical issues that perhaps most of those who in some way work in the healthcare profession or industry encounter perhaps not so infrequently. ..Maurice.
