Man Dies during Sleep Study

(from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, via Drudge) A 25 year old man recently died during a sleep study at Emory:

Harris, a medical assistant, entered the Emory sleep center on Jan. 22, said his mother....... By the next morning he was dead.
Emory said in a statement that he died of sudden cardiac arrest....

The article doesn't give many details and doesn't specify whether Mr. Harris was having a diagnostic study or a CPAP titration study.
Usually the most dangerous part of a sleep study is the drive to the sleep center.

O gosh. That's terrible news. Sleep apnea is a very serious disorder and I think a lot of people fail to realize it.

why were there comments deleted? My husband had not slept for over 6 weeks for no more than an hour or so nap.our dr.sheduled him at the tupelo reggie white ctr. where we were able to get in quickly. we knew something was going on and it was serious. we explained his history in detail and more than once. we were told if needed during the study they would apply cpap.we were told we would have the results in 2 days(friday).the morning after the study i picked my husband up, he said they had not put a cpap on him during the night. so we though ok all is good, but what was to unfold the follow week was more than we could imagine! one week to the day we were being admitted to the hopital, we were at our dr.s office when she realized he was in afib. WE STILL HAD NOT RECEIVED THE RESULTS FROM THE SLEEP STUDY CTR. my husband had sleep apnea,a fib,blood clots,heart attack... so my question to you dr.rack.. do feel you did right by this patient by traveling to this ctr and reading a stack of sleep studies,or do you feel the importance of having your study done where there is an on site dr. to evaluate asap. for this patient could have died as well?
