Is there a worm that grows in the large intestine and feeds off the stuff you eat?

I've heard that the only way to kill it is to eat the shells of nuts and seeds, and when it's dead, you can only defecate it in order to get it out of your body.
Has someone else heard of this? Can anyone enlighten me on this subject?

There are various worms that can live in the large intestine, including tapeworms, roundworms and threadworms.

Some patients will pass these in their stool, others may have few symptoms of worm carriage.

Eating the shells of nuts or seeds is unlikely to cure worms, so if someone thinks they have a worm they should see a doctor (or in some countries a pharmacist). There are several medicines that will kill worms, allowing them to be passed in the stool.
