The recommendations for vitamin D are in flux right now. Currently, guidelines for adults recommend 200 to 400 IU per day, which are undoubtedly too low. New research indicates significant benefits to heart, immune function, bone health, decreased cancer risk and many other pertinent health benefits from increasing vitamin D intake. Conservatively, 1000 IU a day for adults is probably satisfactory but many physicians recommend either 2000 IU a day or 1000 IU a day combined with specific sun exposure. Our program recommends 2000 IU a day, in general. Our physicians may recommend more vitamin D if your blood levels are too low, based on laboratory testing.
