Is a hysterectomy the standard of care for Leiomyosarcoma that is in remission?

I was treated for Leiomyosarcoma and appear to be in remission. My Ob-Gyn who is not an oncologist just told me I must have an hysterectomy. Is this the standard of care?

I assume you are referring to uterine leiomyosarcoma. These cancers arise from the myometrium lining and are known for having aggressive behavior. At minimum surgical treatment of a patient with uterine leiomyosarcoma should include total hysterectomy and removal of cervix. In early stage disease some authors advocate adjuvant radiotherapy after hysterectomy to increase local control of the disease
