There is no evidence in the scientific literature of there being any link between any form of dementia and aspartame.
    • From my personal experience, I was a six-pack per day and more diet Pepsi addict. I had headaches constantly but the six-pack per day habit wasn't my only health issue. In fact, I've had this habit since I was in my late teens (my mother started with Tab) and I'm now 62. After several MRIs lately, there is nothing wrong with my brain. So if aspartame is supposed to create all of these lesions, etc. in your brain, after nearly 50 years of abuse, my didn't show any damage.

While there is no proof that aspartame causes dementia, the rule of thumb is any artificial ingredient in excess could be a poison. I have a diet Pepsi every once in a while but I would not want to find out what will happen if I have excess. Dementia can be a slow process over several years. There could be additional factors that may be reversing the effects of excessive aspartame. It would be hard for any study to pin down the effects of a single dietary ingredient with so many variables. Cigarette smoking does not shorten the life of every smoker that does not mean it is safe and most will agree that it is not.
