Should blood be taken from the thumb for glucose testing?

I read some time ago that blood should not be taken from the thumb for glucose testing. Is this statement correct? I was trying to research it on the computer and found that blood can be tested from the base of the thumb. Please advise me on this, as I am a diabetic and I have never tested blood that is taken from the thumb. Thanks.

Classically, the thumb was not considered a good site, but the reasons have to do with ancient blood glucose testing. Back when lancets were 21 gauge and blood drop size was 10-15 uL, there was substantial residual pain at the lancing site. If you touched the area over the 3-4 hours after lancing, it really hurt.

With 33 gauge lancets, better lancing devices and small blood drops needed there is no reason not to use the thumb as a testing site.
