Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa that is adjacent to your hip joint. Your physician may treat this condition with pain medications such as non steroidal anti-inflammatories, corticosteroid injections or other pain relieving measures.

In addition to these measures, positional treatment to prevent strain and pressure on the area can be helpful. Exercising as tolerated, without increasing the strain on the area may help you maintain flexibility and function. Yoga may be a good choice for this. Trying heating or cooling applications may give some relief. Since it is caused by inflammation, measures to decrease the inflammation in your body with nutritional and supplemental measures may be helpful. Contacting a naturopath for advice may assist you with this.

The aggravating thing about bursitis is that flares may last for some time. Have patience with it, follow these measures on a regular basis and take good general care of your body to decrease the inflammatory flares. Good luck!
