Approximately 10% of familial breast cancer may be related to known mutations, BRCA1/2 being the most common. However, there is some quite interesting work being done by Professor Beatriz Pogo of Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NYC regarding the human mammary tumor virus, thought to be responsible for at least 40% of all human breast cancer.
