The Buteyko Breathing Method has shown to significantly reduce asthma symptoms and medication use in a number of clinical trials. It is not exactly a quick fix "remedy", but rather a breathing retraining program that requires practice and persistence. The results can be extremely satisfying. Trials on average have shown 80-90% reduction in bronchodilators and 50% reduction in steroids as well as significantly better quality of life in Buteyko groups compared to non-Buteyko groups (references to trials and publications are availabe). After the Buteyko method was featured in NY Times in November 2009, it raised a lot of interest. See Medpedia discussion

I am teaching the Buteyko Method to asthmatics for three years now, ages 4 to 80, all kinds of asthma "types" and severity. The results are consistently encouraging. What is even more encouraging, more medical professionals are sincerely supportive of their patients' effort to add safe and effective complimentary techniques such as Buteyko.
