My wife was pregnant when she took Cephalexin for a suspected UTI. Within minutes, she had stomach pains followed by a seizure. Then her waters broke. She went into labour prematurely. Any link between the antibiotic, the seizsure and her waters breaking?

  • But still possible. And is it also possible that the seizure could cause PROM? It just seems far too much of a coincidence. There was nothing wrong with my wife, but within about 15 minutes of taking Cephalexin she began suffering stomach pains followed by a seizure. We cannot think of anything else that caused these symptoms apart from the Cephalexin. It seems she had a severe reaction to it. Do you think it's possible that the stomach pains and convulsions were caused by the drug? And do you think it's possible (not likely - possible) that the conculsions brought on PROM?

There is nothing in the literature that suggests that the cephalexin could be involved in what happened to your wife. As a matter of fact cephalexin is considered among the safest treatments when antibiotic therapy is needed during pregnancy.
    • But one of the sid effects of Cephalexin is seiszures - according to the manufacturer and others.
