What do you do when antidepressants don't work?

I have been on virtually all of the available antidepressants over the past 20 years. I have been diagnosed with dysthymia with periodic bouts of severe depression. When I turned 60 two years ago, I lost interest in everything, including sex (I've been married for 40 years). All I want to do now is sit on the couch and watch TV. What can I do?

Cognitive therapy, delivered by a well trained therapist, has been found to be as effective in studies as medication. You may want to seek a cognitive therapist and try that.

I agree with Kelly. Of course, cognitive therapy should be combined with antidepressants. The combination of both has been clearly shown to have the most benefit.
