There are many causes for a swelling/mass/lump in the scrotum/testicular area. They range from trauma, inflammation, infection, hernia (inguinal), hydrocele (collection of fluid), varicocele (dilated blood vessels) and rarely cancer ( but important).

Any mass in the scrotal area needs to be examined by a physician to rule out serious conditions, like torsion ( twisting of the testes) and cancer.

In order to prevent infertility, loss of function, and other complications, a physician needs to examine the person immediately to determine the diagnosis, treat as needed and rule out serious conditions.
