Childs scalp so tender since birth cannot comb or brush hair

Child is now five and since birth, the child has not been able to tolerate having her hair brushed or combed and screams when hair is washed. This must be something she was born with but have not received a good diagnosis. Any ideas, will she outgrow this?

Do you know if the child has other symptoms that might indicate problems with attention, distractibility, sleep, food sensitivities, or the like?

One possibility is Sensory Integration Disorder. This can sometimes be a "standalone" condition or it can be secondary to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

On the simplest level, it could be the child is deficient in magnesium, which can manifest in such sensory sensitivities. On a more complex level, as with ADHD, the sensory issues are associated with the difficulties in processing or "filtering" stimuli.
