Why are physcians pawning patients off on Nurse practitioners Can a person demand to see the Dr instead of the NP.

My daughter recently went to a new care facility with several health concerns, they have done x rays blood work and a cat scan for Kidney stones as she is in severe pain in her lower mid back with pain shooting down her legs, incontinance, tingling. These tests have all come back negative , she has asked to see the physcian feeling his years of knowledge and schooling would help her get a diagnosis. She has been told the Physcian is out sick and her insurance does not allow her to see any of the physcians in the office, although there are other drs in the office who take her insurance. She has also asked for an MRI feeling a MRI may be able to see and find the problem because if will show more detail and Xrays do not always find a back problem. I dont understand the God like attitude these people have. Can a patient demand to see a physcian.

Your daughter should investigate another office and see a physician who will be accepted by her insurance program. Whether an MRI will prove something which the other studies have not really is something that the new physician should decide based on a history, physical and the lab work already provided. In the U.S. nurse practitioners are required to be supervised by a physician. A patient, I would expect, would have the right to be seen by the supervising physician if desired. ..Maurice.
