What may cause my left side lower rib-stomach area to be numb-cramp

my lower left side would start as a numb feeling than increase to a cramping/tightness, when I stretch by bending over, sit down, or lay down the cramping would subside and go away....but this numbness happens regularly. I have gone to a Gastroenterologist and he had me go through all sorts of testing to see if my intestines are OK.....and he said everything was fine, but I say that I still have the same issue, he suggests that I take paroxetine....which I think is ridiculus. Any recommendation to what I should do or who to see ? DO that practices neuromusculoskeletal medicine, chiropracter, accupuncture??? Your information would be most appreciated.

If anatomically your discomfort is in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen (just under the left lower rib at the top of the abdomen): Did you ask your gastroenterologist whether you might have the splenic flexure syndrome which is thought by some to be a symptom of the irritable bowel syndrome in which there is spasm or distention within the bend of the colon in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen? ..Maurice.

My gastroenterologist had me go through all sorts of testing to see if I have reflux, ulcer etc, last testing was swallowing a pill that took pictures throughout my system.., finally concluded that ther is no problem with my digestive system, as I have no constipation, abdominal pain, bloating or diarrhoea.

Do you think this is may be cause by some sort irritated muscle or pinch nerve from my spine...that may cause this daily dsicomfort. I am 52 and play tennis almost everyday.....but playing less because of this condition...thinking that I should rest more.

I would think at this point, if you have not seen a general physician, you should. Seek out an internal medicine physician who may take a history and perform a physical exam quite different than the gastroenterologist and may be more attuned to other issues as the cause of your symptoms. Best wishes. ..Maurice.

I have gone to my internal doctor first...he referred me to the gastroenterologist....and after months of all different type of testing, I told him I still have the same issue....he was not happy and kind of irritated about my comment and suggested to do what the gastroenterologist recommended, take the paroxetine, as it would not hurt to try it......but after reading the potential side effects of any drugs....I did not try it....as I do not believe the only way to solve a problem is to try a drug to see what it would do to me. Thank you, I do appreciate you responding to my questions/comments.
