If the sinus tachycardia is appropriate, in that the rapid heart rate is a normal physiologic reaction to some other change in body function, there is no need for specific drug therapy since the treatment is to reverse that other change back to normal. In the case of inappropriate sinus tachycardia (this means that the tachycardia is not a reaction to some other change but is due to a disorder of the sinus node which initiates the heart beat), drug treatment is varied but may include beta blocker drugs and perhaps newer drug treatments.
