Keep suffering from cramp in the legs

As above, generally in the right thigh with bad pain spreading to my knee, sometimes calves and ankles. Mostly after lying down or when swimming. Is there any action I should be taking?

Since you are already engaging in swimming which is excellent for your circulation, but still continue to feel pain in the areas mentioned............I would recommend that you see your Internist
and discuss the possibility that your Lower Trunk circulation might be "pooling" because of some plaque deposits on the inner arterial walls.
Unless the pain might be due to an injury to those areas from an earlier time.

There are many reasons that muscles cramp. Of course, some are medical and a visit to your physician may be appropriate. However, cramping can come from over fatigue during exercise, exercise in a cold, wet environment (pool?) or weakness in the cramping muscle. There are also nutritional reasons muscles may cramp. Swimming is great exercise, but mostly for the upper body. Strengthening the muscles of the hip and knee can improve exercise tolerance in the pool. Eating a well rounded diet with plenty of fruits and veggies should insure the proper nutrients muscles need for good functioning. And morning swimmers should eat a light breakfast an hour or so before hitting the pool. Running the body's engine with out fuel can also cause cramping.

    Good luck.

Many thanks. Will take your advice although I might add that I do floor exercises with weights every morning before breakfast and swimming. In fact I think the cramp normally comes later in the day. Also I am in Thailand and the air and pool temp is 31 degrees!

    Thanks again, Michael
