Vildagliptin is a new oral anti-hyperglycemic agent used in patients with type 2 diabetes.
It is available in Europe, but not in the United States

Novartis' Galvus (vildagliptin) is a member of a new class of oral antidiabetic agents. Its mode of action is different from established antidiabetic medications and appears to include disease-modifying effects in patients with type 2 diabetes. Novartis withdrew its application to the FDA in July 2008.

Novartis markets this product in India as Galvus but at lower prices than in Europe in line with local economy and market conditions. Two Indian companies USV (Jalara) and Piramal (Zomelis) market generic versions at similar prices.
