Elbow injuries occur with over use, improper use or trauma. If you hit a tennis ball, 10 times, as in serving, injury is not likely. If you do it 1000 times a day, you will develop shoulder and elbow problems eventually.
If you are doing resistance training, and twisting or pulling too much weight, you might have problems.

Elbow pain and injury can stem from direct trauma or overuse (i.e. using the elbow joint), from gripping action that uses muscles originating about the elbow (e.g. tennis) and pain can be referred or evolve from a nerve that has been sensitised along its pathway, including at points in the neck, shoulder, elbow or hand. Thorough assessment would identify the underlying mechanism and guide appropriate care.
