Do Benzoyl Peroxide and Retin-A counteract each other chemically?

My dermatologist told me that if I use a Benzoyl Peroxide 10% wash, then use Retin-A cream topically, the chemicals counteract each other and both are rendered ineffective. Is this true? If so, how do you recommend using both to treat acne?

    I don't think he/she is correct.
Both agents work on 2 entirely different mechanisms of action and neither drug will cancel out the effect of the other.
btw - just to make sure I referenced this question in 2 major gold standard sources of drug interactions and neither of them made note of any interaction between the 2 drugs.
