What is it about Accutane that makes it such a dangerous drug?
I understand that if you become pregnant while on Accutane, that your baby can have deformities... that makes me worried about my own health. If someone could describe to me, in layman's terms, what is actually happening chemically, I'd be very appreciative.

answered Jan 08, 2010 at 02:44PMI believe that the exact mechanism of action of accutane is not known. It is a Vitamin A medicine that stops oil production from the acne cysts .
Accutane should never be taken if you may become pregnant or are pregnant. Birth control measures must be strictly followed, whilst on accutane. Accutane carries a high risk of causing serious birth defects. Read the following medpedia article .
