The most common cause of knee problems in the general population is osteoarthritis (OA). And, while no one could know for certain if you will develop OA, among the risk factors are prior knee injury, obesity, being female, and a personal or family history of OA. To decrease the chances of knee OA it is recommended you maintain your ideal weight, eat a healthful diet, and exercise to keep the muscles around your knee strong so that they can act as shock absorbers for the joint.
Since you recently had surgery you should be cleared by your physician before you start any exercises. Visit your local physical therapist to learn more about how you can rehabilitate from surgery, keep an active lifestyle and prevent future knee problems.
Good luck.
