Relation between Propofol and Malignant Hyperthermia vs Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome?

My Sister, age 28, underwent an EGD for persistent vomiting, reflux...and received Propofol. Only meds pre-op were Protonix 12 hours prior, and Phenergan 6.25mg 48 hours prior. Post op she had a rare adverse event resulting in: dystonia, hyperventilation, diaphoresis, body flushing, 101 temp axillary, Altered mental status, Oxygen desaturation, Elevated CO2 on Blood gas, Hypercalcemia, Tachycardia, and seizure like activity. This persisted for two hours post-op. The anesthesiologist had never seen a reaction like this. Any case studies or events similar reported?

Thanks, Melodi Wrinkle RN

Central anticholinergic syndrome has been described as a response that occurs after receiving propofol, as well as other drugs with direct or indirect cholinergic or anticholinergic action. The syndrome causes impairment in central cholinergic transmissions to the cerebral cortex. Clinical symptoms can range from depressed neurological states, such as decreased level of consciousness, stupor, amnesia and coma to hyperactive states including restlessness, anxiety, logorrhea, agitation and seizures. Other effects associated with this syndrome can include: headache, disorientation, delirium, shivering, dysarthria, and HYPERTHERMIA with temperatures reported as high as 41.5 degrees Celsius.
