Gastroparesis, a condition where the normal peristalsis of the esophagus, has been altered is very difficult. First and foremost, your wife should have a complete swallowing evaluation (including a modified barium swallow) and should be followed by a speech pathologist. Their experience and advice is priceless. Depending upon the severity of her condition, modifications in her diet will be made, so she can swallow effectively. Of equal importance is her position while eating and after meals so she does not aspirate. Contact the speech pathologist of your local hospital and ask your physician for that referral
