I don't know the scientific reasoning behind it, but from my own personal experience, yes it does work. I had SLAMMED my foot into a metal object (in the garage) and although I didn't break my toe, it felt like I had and the top half of my food started to bruise immediately. The friend I was with told me to get Arnica ~ she even went to the store to get it for me ~ and that night it turned from dark blue/purple to yellow by morning AND it stopped hurting in about an hour after applying. Within three days my foot was normal and I could put closed shoes on.

Arnica is a natural homeopathic anti- inflamatory remedy that inhibits part of the inflamatory responce in the body at the site of an injury. It works at a cellular leval. Reducing pain and swelling and speeds up the recovery of the injury. Traumeel is one of the best Arnica preparations on the market today.

Your asking the right question, only you're not getting the answer. What you're being offered are personal stories and beliefs about the efficacy of arnica. Arnica has been around for long enough that if there were clear evidence for its effect we'd all know. In god we trust - all others bring evidence.

It is very popular and recommended by many healthcare providers (doctors and even vascular surgeons) in US, Canada and Europe. It works frequently and has many believers who do not need any clinical evidence. Sales are driven by discounts and incentives to doctors, stores, alternate medicine, homeopathy and pharmacies. I doubt if it can pass FDA criteria for safety and efficacy in double blind clinical trials in adequate number of patients or come out better vs creams and gels containing active drugs. The product is highly profitable to the company Boiron and it has the profits to generate hard evidence of safety and efficacy.
