Graduating from UCLA in 1960 with a B.S. in Chemistry, working as an industrial chemist for one year, I entered Medical School at UCSF, graduating as MD in 1965. I stayed on at UCSF, ultimately specializing in Nephrology, enabling me to branch out broadly to do clinical and animal research in Endocrinology, Nutritional Science, Hypertension, Osteoporosis, and a variety of basic biology fields. I retired in 2002, then subsequently accepted a recall appointment. I hold positions in UCSF's Clinical and Translation Science Institute, having previously served as co-director of UCSF's General Clinical Research Center. In the past two years I have served as author and Editor of the Biology Workgroup and the Health Scences Work of the expert-guided wiki encyclopedia, Citizendium.
