I was brought up, and finished High School in the official Iraqi school system. After High School graduation with honor, I was awarded a full scholarshipi for undergraduate college studies at the the American University of Beirut (Lebanon) from the Iraqi government. after receiving my B.A. in 1952 (with honor), i taught for a year at the chemistry department of the Medical College in Baghdad as a Teaching Assistant. in 1953, i was awarded another ful scholarship by the iraqi goverment for graduate training at the University of California at Berkeley / San Francisco (USA) and i received my Ph.D. in pharmaceutical / medicinal chemistry in 1959 after which i went back to teach at the school of pharmacy, university of Baghdad where i went through the ranks except for two periods of absence: one in 1963-1964 for a sabtical post-doctoral year at the Medical Center of the university of Maryland in Baltimore (USA); and the other from 1971-1974 to serve as the President of the university of Su
