About me
I am a 58-year old heart attack survivor from the West Coast of Canada, and a 2008 graduate of the annual 'WomenHeart Science & Leadership Symposium for Women with Heart Disease' at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota - the first Canadian ever invited to attend. In May, 'Our Bodies, Ourselves' in Boston named me one of their 2009 'Women's Health Heroes, one of 20 inductees from seven countries acknowledged for our community activism in promoting women's health issues.
Why I participate in Medpedia
What I learned from Mayo Clinic about women and heart disease was shocking. Even though heart disease is our #1 killer, most women mistakenly believe breast cancer to be women's biggest health threat. Since returning from Mayo last fall, I have done public presentations to thousands of women about the important subject of women and heart disease (including my signature "Pinot & Prevention" parties!)
