About me
I have hypothryoidism and In 2009 I set up a blog about it, aimed not to record or publish purely my own experience of this disease, but to target the lack of awareness of such common conditions as hyper and hypothyroidism, whilst providing tips and information to three categories of people: 'Current Sufferers', 'Thyroid Newbies' and 'Any One'. I also write a more personal blog on Everyday Health
Why I participate in Medpedia
I am really keen on the idea behind the Medpedia project: allowing communication between the medical professions, patients, ordinary people, etc, especially in such an accessible manner as this, is a fantastic idea which is bound to help a lot of people. From my own experience and from reading other sites, I have learnt that when you look for advice about a specific topic you want to know that it is worth your while following it. Sometimes the amount of "don't eat this healthy food, don't eat that - it will affect your medication" is a little too ridiculous and you want to find an official source which quotes it accurately and, importantly, with details - when, why, what to look out for, etc. Medpedia has that official front and as it grows will become ever more relied upon. It is also great that this is looking to be a one-stop site, and by that I mean that you can find everything out from one source; there's no need to visit half of Google's search results!
