About me
I'm a writer/editor specializing in topics related to fertility, infertility, reproductive medicine, parenting, and families. I began my career in family-centered social work, spending 15 years in the areas of substance abuse prevention, residential adolescent psychiatric treatment, foster care, battered women’s shelters, HIV services, and hospitals. I began writing full-time in 1997. While raising my son and our menagerie, I wrote for the Internet, starting with About.com as their first Guide to Infertility (1997-2002) and as a Consultant to Moms Online (1998-2000), an original part of the Oxygen Media network. Following my years in Web publishing, I expanded my freelance availability to include health care media and writing and editing for consumer magazines.
Why I participate in Medpedia
Having been involved with the development of the Internet's first attempts at connecting patients with physicians, I'm excited to see Medpedia's plans to provide ethical, vetted content for readers. I bring perspectives from several angles -- as a social worker, a former infertility patient, an industry observer, and a parent.
